The reasons for low fruit setting rate of apricot should be analyzed from many aspects.
First, why not breed?
The traditional cultivated apricot belongs to the North China ecological group. If the field planted sweet Hazelnut apricot, wheat yellow apricot, red jade apricot, two flower slot apricot and so on, most of these apricot varieties aborted flowers, self-fertilization rate is low. In the 1990s, European apricot varieties were introduced, such as Jinyang apricot, Kate apricot, greenhouse Wang apricot, agate apricot, Italian No. 1, etc. These apricot varieties have high percentage of complete flower, high rate of self-flowering and seed setting, generally higher rate of fruit than the apricot varieties of North China Ecological Group, and generally stronger cold tolerance of flower organs and young fruits.

Local environmental conditions are not suitable for apricot trees to grow early in spring. Flowering and young fruit development are just the frequent occurrence of late spring cold and late frost. Flower organs and young fruits are extremely vulnerable to freezing to stop development and fall off. Third is the reason for Apricot management?
In apricot orchards where cultivation and management are not good at extensive management, the trees are weak and abortive flowers are numerous. If we do not pay attention to regulating the amount of flowers, we will lose flowers and fruits because of lack of nutrients. Excessive pruning, excessive nitrogen fertilizer application, watering too often, will cause apricot vigorous growth, leading to nutritional growth and fruit competition nutrients, will also cause flowers and fruits.

The apricot pollen that may be purchased is of poor quality and low activity. It may also be the wrong way to pollinate.
Commonly used pollination methods:
1. Point-feeding method: add 3-5 times talc or starch into the collected pollen, mix well, dip a small amount of pollen with brush or soft rubber head and gently wipe it on the stigma. Every time you dip a pollen, you can give 10~25 flowers. In order to improve fruit setting rate and yield, the emphasis is put on the comprehensive spot-feeding of plants with few flowers, early-blooming flowers and late-blooming flowers.
2. spray method: take 10~12 grams of collected dry pollen, add 5 kilograms of water, and mix 250 grams of white granulated sugar into a suspension. Add 5 grams of boric acid before spraying, mix well and spray it immediately with a hand-held sprayer. 60% of the whole plant was sprayed 1~2 times. The whole plant should be sprayed evenly, without spraying and repeated spraying, so as to make full use of pollen.
